• Discipline

The intellectual and spiritual development of each student demands attendance and participation in all scheduled classes and mandatory Chapel services.

Students should not regard these commitments casually; unexcused absences signal a disengagement from the core academic program as well as a disregard for the concerns and goals of the School.

Students who miss a class or Chapel at any time during the year should expect the following consequences:

  • First unexcused absence: Five marks and notification sent to advisor and parent
  • Second unexcused absence: Five marks, notification sent to advisor and parent, Saturday detention
  • Third unexcused absence: Five marks, notification sent to advisor, Saturday detention, a letter sent home from the dean’s office
  • Fourth unexcused absence: Five marks, notification sent to advisor and parent, Saturday detention, Residential and Academic Review with the Dean of Student Life and the Academic Advisor—Academic Warning
  • Fifth unexcused absence: All of the above and a separation from the community

Subsequent unexcused absences will be taken into consideration when determining whether a student should remain at St. Andrew’s.

A student must request and receive permission from the Dean of Student Life or the weekend duty head before the weekend to miss Sunday Chapel. Without explicit permission, a student’s absence will be considered unexcused.
