• Leaving & Returning to Campus

We would appreciate your cooperation in adhering to times and dates specified by the School when planning your sons’ and daughters’ transportation arrangements for weekends and vacations. Members of the faculty have difficulty in holding classes and adhering to planned syllabi when several students are missing from particular classes due to early departures or late returns from weekends or vacations. Transportation is arranged through Transportation Coordinator Karin Wright. Please see Check-Out Procedures, Transportation To and From Campus for School Breaks, and Unaccompanied Children Traveling by Air/Train for additional requirements related to travel.

There are three kinds of weekend leaves:

Regular Saturday-Sunday weekend leaves normally begin after a student’s last School obligation on Saturday and ends at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Members of the III, IV, and V Forms are entitled to four regular weekends per semester. Members of the VI Form are entitled to regular weekends as necessary.

Long Weekends
Each year, the School has three Long Weekends that begin after a student’s last commitment on either Friday or Saturday and ends at 6:00 p.m. on either Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday evening. We encourage students to take advantage of the opportunity to leave campus and rest with friends and family, and to consider hosting students who may be unable to go home. Please consult the academic calendar for the exact date and times of Long Weekends; there are no early departures, late returns, or leaving and returning within the weekend.

Campus Weekends
Occasionally, students who live a distance from home and cannot take many weekends may take a weekend leave at the home of a faculty member. Those students who take such weekends must understand that any time they rejoin School activities, they fall under the jurisdiction of major School rules.

Permission for Leaves
Parents must email or call Mr. Terrell Myers at 302-285-4438 or Mr. Matt Carroll at 302-285-4391 to give consent or confirmation of weekend leave. Parents must also communicate an invitation for St.  Andrew’s students who are visiting their home.

NOTE: Students on weekend leave must understand that if they either return to School or meet with other St. Andrew’s students not on weekend leaves, they must obey the rules and regulations of the School. For example, a student on a weekend leave violates the alcohol rule if he/she meets students not on a weekend and drinks with them, on or off campus. The School will not knowingly give permission for large numbers of our students bound for the same destination to take a weekend leave unless we have assurances from the parents of such students that responsible adult chaperones will be present.

Factors which can alter the number of weekends to which a student is normally entitled: The Dean of Students has authority to make exceptions to the weekend policy when unusual circumstances such as weddings, funerals, family anniversaries, or graduations occur.

Closed Weekends
Among selected others, the weekend on which students return to School in the fall, the last weekend of the Spring Term, and dance weekends are closed weekends. Barring unusual circumstances, no leaves will be granted on these weekends.
