Commencement 2021

Dear Class of 2021 Students and Parents,

All of us here at St. Andrew’s look forward to celebrating the distinguished and exciting accomplishments of the Class of 2021 at our graduation ceremonies in May. Like many of you, I view graduation day with mixed emotions. I am very proud of this class’s contributions to the School, and I know it is time for them to embark on their college careers. However, it will be difficult to say goodbye to a group that has meant so much to St. Andrew’s.

In this letter, I want to share further information about this year’s graduation weekend. Our goal is to celebrate the Class of 2021 and their Commencement on campus, with family members, while also keeping our entire community and all visitors safe and healthy. As we have learned over and over during the pandemic, we may have to be nimble and flexible with our planning, depending on evolving health conditions.

As stated in my previous letter on this subject, St. Andrew’s graduation is scheduled to take place Friday, May 28. We will hold a Chapel service at 10:00 AM and Commencement at 11:00 AM, both on the Front Lawn. Each member of the Class of 2021 may have four guests attend Chapel and Commencement in person. A to-go lunch will be provided to families after the ceremony. Dean of Teaching and Learning Elizabeth Roach will be our speaker that day.

Because of the pandemic, we will hold our Awards Night ceremony for the 2020-21 year at 8:00 PM ET on Wednesday, May 26. Only members of the internal school community will be present, but we will of course livestream the ceremony for our VI Form families.

Look for future emails containing livestream links, printable PDFs of graduation announcements, and further details about the VI Form move-out process. You will also receive a Commencement invitation in the mail. If you have any questions, please contact Associate Head of School Ana Ramirez at

We look forward to welcoming you in May!

Update! Four Guests Per Student Now Permitted

Due to anticipated increased gathering limits in Delaware, each member of the Class of 2021 may now have four guests per student present at Baccalaureate Chapel and Commencement on May 28.

Grad Announcements, Banners & Signs

We’ve created digital assets in a Commencement Toolkit that will help you celebrate your senior at home: personalized graduation announcements and banners for each student (organized by last name), plus yard sign templates. You can download, print and mail or post these assets as you see fit!

Health & Safety Protocols

  • We ask that all graduation day visitors obtain a negative PCR or rapid antigen COVID-19 test within three days prior to your arrival to campus. If you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you do not need to be tested before coming to campus.
  • If you are not feeling well on the day of graduation, we ask that you not come to campus.
  • While on campus, visitors must wear a mask at all times (except when eating or drinking), even if you are vaccinated, and must maintain at least six feet of physical distancing from others (outside your family) whenever possible.
  • We will provide distanced seating for all guests at the Commencement ceremony.

What Should I Wear?

The traditional dress for Commencement is white dresses or white slacks, blue shirts, navy blazers and school ties. This year’s 50th Reunion class has donated a school tie or a silver SAS cross for each member of the Class of 2021. Ties and charms will be distributed to students at the VI Form Dinner on Sunday, May 23.
