We are pleased to announce that, in the 2018-19 school year, St. Andrew's will begin using a new daily academic schedule. The new schedule format is the result of more than two years of work and study on the issue that has included faculty and student feedback sessions and research visits to peer institutions.
Our new schedule will have longer class periods but fewer classes per day, with a goal of making more time for collaborative and deep in-class learning. There will also be more time between classes to provide for less hectic transitions, and more breaks throughout the day to provide space for both meetings and reflection. The new schedule will also allow the School to offer a variety of new courses, including, for the first time, semester-long electives. We hope the new schedule engenders a more productive and sustainable daily and weekly pace at St. Andrew's that will better enable students and faculty to meet their high expectations for themselves and for each other.
Your student(s) will be bringing home a course selection packet over winter Long Weekend; this packet is designed to help students plan their course selection for the 2018-19 school year, as well as their course selection in future years at St. Andrew's. The packet contains information on all courses being offered next year; graduation requirements; and the basic outline of the new schedule. Please review this packet with your child and discuss his or her academic options for the coming year.
All of the information in the course selection packet can also be found online at https://www.standrews-de.org/academics/2018-19-course-selection-guide. Further information about our new academic schedule can be found at https://www.standrews-de.org/academics/new-schedule-info.
