Dress Code & Clothing Packing List
Our dress code is gender neutral. Any student can wear any of the items permitted in the dress code. At St. Andrew’s, we believe less is more given our responsibility to the stewardship of our resources. As such, below are quantities suggested by current students which you may want to follow as you prepare to come to St. Andrew’s, but these are suggested quantities only.
Students are encouraged to make use of the laundry facilities on campus; HE detergent is available for purchase in the school store or you may arrive to campus with your own supply. Dorm parents and seniors are available to assist any student who may not be familiar with how to do their own laundry. Dorm parents will also encourage good habits of personal hygiene, which includes making regular use of the laundry facilities for both clothing and bedding. We encourage and nurture the development of these positive habits which will serve each student and the broader St. Andrew’s community.
Dress Code
Appropriate attire is a matter of respect for yourself and others. The school is an educational environment as well as a workplace for adults. At St. Andrew’s, our dress code gives each of us the opportunity to demonstrate and practice that respect as well as set a daily discipline of preparing for the day.
The dress code helps set guidelines for what types of attire are appropriate for different places and situations. Just as you would not wear a bathing suit in a house of worship or a courtroom, some clothing may be appropriate for hanging out with friends in a dorm but is not suited to the classroom, Dining Hall, or Chapel.
There are three categories of dress code: Haycock wear, Classroom dress and Chapel dress. The dean of student affairs will determine which category shall be in place at any given time of the year and for any given event on campus. All clothes should be clean and in good repair (no rips, holes, or other “distress”) and should cover all parts of the body outlined in the illustration.
Classroom and Haycock Dress are required during the academic day, which begins at 8:30 a.m. (8:55 a.m. on Monday) and ends at 3:00 p.m. (3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays). Students without a class or who are using the gym may be out of dress code for that time but are expected to be in proper attire before returning to any public places on campus. Students will be asked to return to their room to change or will be issued marks if they are not in the proper attire at any given time or in any given location.
Students should know and abide by the spirit of the dress code. Please see the dean of student affairs anytime you are curious about anything outlined in this section.
