Lily Murphy ’23 and Leah Horgan ’25 made school history on Saturday afternoon during the DIAA State Championships at Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex. 

Murphy won the individual championship for the 3200m race and set a new school record with a time of 11:14.96.

Horgan finished 3rd in the 3200m with a time of 11:29.77 and was barely one second away from a second-place finish. The sophomore also finished 6th in the 1600m race, setting a school record with a 5:16.64 time. 

"We have never had two individual qualifiers finish so high in the state race," said head coach Jon Tower. "It's such a huge result for both of them! As a result of these performances, the girls team earned enough points to finish tied for 11th in the state."

A few other highlights from the day include:

Harry Murphy ’23 finishing his career by competing in the 3200m race, finishing 14th with a time of 10:33.57.

Boys 4x800m relay - Murphy, Chris Onsomu ’25, Will Hagberg ’25, and Jakub "Kuba" Krajnik ’24 finished 13th in the state and broke the school record by over 5 seconds, finishing with a time of 9:00.74.

Girls 4x800m relay - Devin Hundley ’23, Emerson McCarthy ’24, Sofia Golab ’25, and Caroline Meers ’24 fought through the misfortune of having their race stopped after the first two runners completed their legs. They ran a gutsy second race, battling the top teams in the state during their heat.

Boys 4x200m relay - Stachel Barnes ’24, Spencer Fairbanks ’25, Jesse Carr ’24, and Griffin Patterson ’24 finished with a time of 1:43.67.

Girls 4x200m relay - Margaret Gilheany ’26, Sophie Train ’25, Gloria Oladejo ’25, and Daphne Banfield ’26 ran a season best by over 4 seconds at 2:05.95, and missed running a school record by 0.23 seconds.
