The Saints traveled to Dover to play the 1st Round of the DIAA State Tournament. Their opponent was #6 seed Caesar Rodney and the Saints were the #11 seed. While the seeds were not close, the game was a tight one throughout. Early the Saints scored on a Sage Cookerly ’22 goal to take a 1-0 lead. Caesar Rodney answered with two of their own goals to lead 2-1 after the 1st quarter. The Saints offense came to life in the second quarter scoring four goals to take a 5-3 lead into halftime. The hot offense continued when Mike Lilley ’22 and Phin Hunt ’22 scored in the 3rd quarter to give the Saints an 8-4 lead. Caesar Rodney would not go away though and was able to create multiple turnovers that they converted into goals. Late in the 4th quarter the Saints had a 10-8 lead but another turnover in the defensive zone led to a fast break goal by Caesar Rodney to close the gap to one. The Saints tried to hold on but Caesar Rodney scored the tying goal with 45 seconds left. The Saints gained possession and held for one last shot but Lilley's shot when just wide of the net, sending the game into overtime. In overtime Caesar Rodney capitalized on their early possession to score a walk off winning goal, defeating the Saints 11-10.
