After being tied 1-1 in the fifth inning, the Cardinals took the lead in the top of the sixth and earned a 2-1 victory over Tatnall School on Thursday. The Cardinals scored first on a fly ball by Jack Lauer ’20 that brought home Malik Velmar ’17. After going scoreless for the next three innings, Andrew McArthur ’18 doubled in the top of the sixth and scored on a ground ball by Patrick Windels ’17 to earn the winning run.
Both teams had four hits. Roman DeMarco ’20, Joey Shields ’18, Rick Townsend ’18, and McArthur had one hit each for St. Andrew’s. The pitching was strong on both sides. Colin Cool ’17 struck out four, and did not walk a batter. The Saints were sure-handed on defense. Lauer made the most plays with six key put outs, and the team had no errors.
