Win 49-8

Micah Turpin ’19 had a career day for the Saints on Friday. The senior from Brooklyn, NY carried the ball 24 times for 300 yards and a school record-tying five touchdowns on the day. Turpin was featured early and often as he opened up the scoring on the Saints second drive of the game, taking a handoff 24 yards for his first score of the day. Theo Jaffe ’19, who converted 5 of 6 extra point attempts, and also ran in a two-point conversion, tacked on the extra point to give the Saints a lead at 7-0 that they would never relinquish.

On the Saints' next possession, Arthur Potter ’19 found Lamar Duncan ’20 in the flat, where Duncan danced around multiple defenders and found his way into the endzone. The Saints again struck quickly after a long Turpin run set the offense up with first-and-goal, where Adrian Watts ’20 capped off the drive with a three-yard scoring run. Watts has found the endzone in every game for the Saints this season.

George School found a little bit of offensive success on their next possession when they were able to get on the board and cut the lead to 21-8. From there the Turpin show took center stage. On the very first play of the next series he took a handoff and sprinted through the whole George School defense, pulling away from defenders for a 64 yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 27-8. That is the score the Saints would take into the locker room at half time.

Turpin proved to be too much for the George School defense to handle in the third quarter as he scored his final three touchdowns on runs of 17, 38 and 15 yards. After Turpin's fifth touchdown run of the day, he and the rest of the offense turned over the reigns to our younger players, who got a lot of valuable experience in the fourth quarter.

The Saints also had a strong day on defense, forcing five turnovers. Potter and Alex Maruszewski ’20 each had an interception, Jaffe had two fumble recoveries, and Brandon Graves ’21 had one fumble recovery. Tre Thomas’20 led the team on the day with six tackles, three of them going for a loss, and two sacks.

The Saints are back in action next Friday at home vs. First State Military Academy; kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.
