Sample Schedules

In the 2018-19 school year, St. Andrew's will begin using a new daily academic schedule. In this new schedule, there are four class periods per day, each one hour and fifteen minutes long. Each of a student's classes will be assigned to one of seven “blocks” lettered A through G. The blocks will rotate in letter order through the four daily class periods, with the cycle starting over after G Block; we achieve four rotations of the A-G cycle in seven days. Students will always attend their courses in block letter order; the blocks are not fixed to individual class periods. This means that each academic day and week will look slightly different in terms of the times of day students attend classes, but all classes will meet for four class periods every seven days. Classes will no longer be held on Saturdays, but a chunk of Saturday morning is reserved for special events, workshops, campus projects, and community service opportunities.

Sample III Form Student Schedule

This student is taking the maximum III Form courseload in this semester: five full-credit, yearlong courses, plus Intro to the Arts/Intro to Community Life. Intro the Arts/Community Life meets for two class periods every five days, rather than four class periods every seven days, as occurs in a standard block. The Community Life component of the course is semester-long, while the Arts component is yearlong. In the second semester, III Form students may take an additional elective—any semester-long, half-credit elective open to freshman—if they wish.

Sample IV Form Student Schedule

This student is taking the maximum courseload in this semester: five full-credit, yearlong courses and one half-credit, semester-long course (Wellness). In the other semester, the student would be able to take a different half-credit elective in place of Wellness, or could scale back and take no additional elective.

Sample V Form Student Schedule

This student is taking the maximum courseload in this semester: four full-credit, yearlong courses, and two half-credit, semester-long courses (The Hero’s Journey and Painting 1). In the other semester, the student would be able to take two new electives in place of both The Hero’s Journey and Painting 1, or could scale back and take one elective or no additional electives.

Sample VI Form Student Schedule

This student is taking the minimum VI Form courseload in this semester: four full-credit, yearlong courses, and one half-credit, semester-long course (Astronomy). In the other semester, the student would have to take one new elective in place of Astronomy in order to meet the minimum courseload requirement for the senior year.
