The St. Andrew’s boys and girls swim teams traveled to the University of Delaware on Saturday to compete in the DIAA state championship meets, placing 4th and 8th, respectively. The boys performed particularly well in relays, placing 4th overall in the 400 free and 200 medley relays. In the 400 free, Will Cammerzell ’19, Xander Atalay ’19, Tad Schiebe ’19 and Andrew Park ’21 raced to a time of 3:22.25, less than three seconds behind the 3rd place team. In the 200 medley relay, Cammerzell and Park were aided by Matthew Yan ’19 and Bence Orkeny ’20, touching the wall in 1:41.84. Individually, the Saints had three swimmers earn 6th place finishes in their respective events. Tad Schiebe finished 6th overall in the 200 and 500 free while Cammerzell placed 6th in the 100 back. Andrew Park ’21 secured another 6th place finish for the Saints, racing to a time of 53.74 in the 100 fly. Xander Atalay ’19 finished 10th overall in the 200 free.

On the girls side, both Sarah Caron ’19 and Elizabeth Rainey ‘22 turned in spectacular individual performances for the Saints. Caron, a Second Team All-State performer last season, placed 5th overall in the 100 back and 7th in the 100 free. Rainey continued to impress during her freshman campaign, finishing 6th in the 50 free while adding a 9th place finish in the 100 free. Madison Macalintal ’22 finished 11th in the 100 back, racing to a time of 1:03.34. The 200 medley relay team featuring Caron, Macalintal, Piper Ackermann ’19 and Marie Ueda ’21 placed 6th overall, finishing the race in 1:56.06.
