The varsity and JV wrestling teams traveled to Brandywine HS to compete in the Earl Helmbreck Invitational on Saturday afternoon. At the varsity level, Theo Taylor ’21 took home gold in the 120-pound finals, beating all of his opponents throughout the day. Nick Osbourne ’23 (132-pound bracket), Tyler Wood ’21 (138-pound bracket), and Nick Lilley ’21 (152-pound bracket) each finished second in their respective weight classes. Silas Grasse ’23 (123-pound bracket), Caden Wood ’21 (152-pound bracket), Matt Mitchell ’21 (170-pound bracket) and Nico Hamel ’21 (182-pound bracket) all went undefeated in their respective JV tournaments and walked away with gold medals.
On Saturday, the Saints won a combined 35 matches and 20 of these victories came by pin. They’ll look to keep the momentum rolling next week when they travel to the YellowJacket Invitational on Friday afternoon held at Newark High School.
Boys Basketball: The varsity boys basketball team fell to Middletown HS on Friday evening, losing by a final score of 63-54. Lamar Duncan ’20 scored a game-high 19 points while Frankie Koblish ’22 added 15 points in his Saints debut. Adrian Watts ’20 made six field goals, totaling 14 points. The Saints will look for win number one on Tuesday evening when they host Tower Hill. Start time is 3:45 p.m.
Girls Basketball: The varsity girls basketball team fell to Middletown HS by a final score of 65-27 on Friday evening. Jill Tora ’21 led all Saints with eight points on four made field-goals while Darden Shuman ’23 added seven in her varsity debut. The Saints will look to win their first game of the 2019-20 season on Monday afternoon at Tower Hill School. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
Boys & Girls Swimming: The boys and girls swim teams fell to Tower Hill School on Saturday afternoon by final scores of 100-69 and 122-48. Jiahan Huang ’22 was the lone Saint to win an individual event, winning the 50 free with a time of 25.01. Andrew Park ’21, Liam Hurtt ’22, Huang and KaiChun Chuang ’23 combined to win the 200 free relay for the boys, clocking in at 1:39.22. The Saints will look for their first win next Thursday afternoon when they host Archmere Academy at 3:30 p.m.
Girls Squash: The varsity girls squash team defeated Shipley School on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 7-2, recording their first victory of the 2019 season. Bridget Schutt ’23, Nicole Saridakis ’20, Emily Murphy ’22, Ingrid Hoopes ’20, Allaire Berl ’22, Izzy Nielsen ’21 and Micayla Kates ’22 all recorded victories for the Saints.
