Elizabeth (Betsy) Kirkland Cahill is a writer and a civic volunteer. She began her career at the New York Shakespeare Festival, where she co-authored Shakespeare Alive! with Joseph Papp and served as Assistant Director/Dramaturge on several Shakespeare productions. She subsequently worked at the New York Public Library in the President’s Office and as Director of Public Affairs.
Betsy holds an A.B. in Classics from Harvard, an M.A. in English Language and Literature from Oxford (where she was a Rhodes Scholar), and an M.A. in Religion from the Yale Divinity School.
Betsy is a frequent contributor to numerous journals, including Commonweal and America. She currently chairs the Pastoral Council of her church, St. Mary of the Annunciation, and the board of the Preservation Society of Charleston. Betsy and her husband, John Cahill, have four children, three of whom are St. Andreans (’11, ’12, and ’19).
