Having taught high school English in both public and private schools, Sis turned her attention to civic and cultural affairs in 2003. Since then she has chaired the organization responsible for creating Houston’s award winning Buffalo Bayou Park, has been president of Houston’s unique literary arts organization Inprint, which brings renowned authors to Houston, and has become an owner of Brazos Bookstore. She also serves on the boards of BikeHouston, a bicycle advocacy group, and The Houston Seminar, a nonprofit social and cultural continuing education organization. Amidst these and other commitments, she maintains a passion for hiking, biking, cooking, and reading. Sis holds B.A. and M.A.T. degrees from Vanderbilt University. She and her husband Hasty have two daughters, one of whom is a proud St. Andrew’s graduate.
