During Spring Break 2019, St. Andrew's will offer students the chance to travel to Italy. Led by Classics Department faculty in collaboration with The Paideia Institute, students will visit and explore Rome from February 27 through March 10. The trip is open to ALL students taking a language (not just students enrolled in Latin or Greek). An initial informational flyer can be viewed here, and a information session with Classics Department Chair Giselle Furlonge will be held on the Saturday of Parents Weekend (October 27), at 11:45 AM in Engelhard Hall. In the meantime, if you have questions, please contact Giselle Furlonge at email@example.com.
Our Parents Center is the hub for all things SAS, and we hope you'll find here everything you need to know about upcoming events; latest news; important forms; School policies; and the overall flow of our academic year. If you have questions about anything, please to do not hesitate to email our Director of Parent Relations Bernadette Devine at firstname.lastname@example.org or 302-285-4274.
If your child plans to travel to St. Andrew's by plane, train, or bus at any point during the upcoming school year, please review the School's Transportation Policies. Some policies have been updated slightly from the previous school year, so all parents should read over these instructions.
Please review the School's student technology requirements. A laptop is required for all students. We strongly urge you to purchase accidental damage insurance for your devices! For a small yearly premium, this policy covers not only computers but also smartphones, digital cameras, and other electronic equipment in the event of accidental damage, fire, theft, and other issues. St. Andrew's offers an accidental damage insurance policy through Worth Ave. Group; for more info, visit: https://my.worthavegroup.com/standrewsde.
For summer reading, all students are required to read any two books from this list of faculty-recommended titles. In addition, the whole school will read, Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward. This amazing novel won the 2017 National Book Award for fiction. We're excited to announce that Ward will be a visiting author for a day at St. Andrew's next spring! The whole school will also read Carol Dweck's Mindset: The New Psychology of Success; this book outlines how a growth mindset leads to success in all areas of our life.
Students will need to complete the reading by the Opening of School for orientation activities. When we return from summer vacation, teachers will lead book discussions on the books they recommended. It will be a fun way to engage with a variety of people in the community and to discuss the books you read.
