Conservation Innovation Grant
St. Andrew's School began working with the University of Delaware College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (UD-CANR) in the fall of 2005. Our mutual goal was to develop a long-standing partnership that would enhance the management and use of the agricultural lands, the campus landscape and the natural ecosystems here at St. Andrew's while providing our students hands- on experience with many research projects. In 2006, UD-CANR and St. Andrew's received a three year Conservation Innovation Grant from the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) and began a $425,000 project to support these cooperative efforts. In general, the focus of the grant is on improving agricultural nutrient management, enhancing riparian buffer ecosystem, watershed management for water quality protection, and community outreach. Another key goal of this grant was to support establishment of the St. Andrew's center for 21st Century Farming. The Center would use the activities conducted in this grant as the first steps in a broader effort to provide regional leadership in progressive, sustainable approaches to farming in the 21st Century.
