Austin Glessner ’11 Wins Outstanding Wrestler Award at Annual St. James Holloway Tournament

Posted December 8, 2010

Austin Glessner ’11 (North East, MD) broke out of the gates to start his senior campaign in fine fashion this past weekend winning the 171 lb. division at the St. James Holloway Wrestling Tournament held in St. James, MD. After receiving a first round bye, Austin steamrolled through the next two rounds of the tournament winning by technical falls with scores of 15-0 and 16-1, respectively. In the final, Austin pulled ahead of a wrestler from host St. James 7-2 before winning by pin early in the third frame.

For his efforts, Austin was recognized by the rest of the 12-team field as Outstanding Wrestler of the meet. The award affirmed not only Austin’s ability, but also his sportsmanship and commitment to his team. Assistant Wrestling Coach Matt Carroll had the opportunity to coach Austin this fall on the Boys Soccer Team and enjoyed seeing the kind of dedication that won him the Coaches Award for soccer carry over into the wrestling season.

“Austin had a tremendous tournament as he captured the 171 lb. weight class. Although it’s early on in the season, Austin has been a great team captain leading by example and setting the tone for the rest of the team.”

After a win yesterday versus conference rival Westtown, Austin’s season record is now 4-0 with a tough match against Archmere Academy next on the schedule. You can find the full wrestling schedule here.
