The St. Andrew's football team traveled north to Pennsylvania for the final away game of the season. On a brisk Friday afternoon, the Saints got off to an auspicious start on the opening possession of the game, driving 61 yards in 12 plays to take a 6-0 lead. Sterling Cousar made his first career TD reception on a clutch 4th down play. The second quarter saw the Saints put together another impressive offensive drive, capped off by a 10 yard touchdown run by Austin Tilghman. The PAT failed, leaving the score 12-0 at halftime. St. Andrew's played tough defense the entire game, containing Perkiomen's star running back, Bruce Brittingham, in the first half.
The Saints defense continued where it left off, stopping Perkiomen on its first three plays of the second half. Co-captain Martin Millspaugh made a huge defensive play on 4th down, blocking the first punt of his career and giving St. Andrew's great field position. The Saints took advantage of Millspaugh's clutch play, as Austin Tilghman made a nifty 30 yard run for his second touchdown of the day. The PAT failed for the third time, leaving the score 18-0 in favor of St. Andrew's.
The momentum quickly changed as Perkiomen's Bruce Brittingham took the ensuing kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. Perkiomen's successful PAT left the score 18-8 with plenty of time remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Saints continued to contain the Perkiomen offense, forcing them to punt or stopping them on downs numerous times in the second half. Quarterback Khary Dennis finally provided some breathing room for the Saints, with an impressive 18 yard scamper for a touchdown. JP Crowley's PAT gave St. Andrew's a 25-8 lead with under 4 minutes remaining in the football game. A Perkiomen Hail Mary in the final two minutes closed the gap to 25-14, but St. Andrew's recovered Perkiomen's ensuing onside kick attempt and ran out the clock.
St. Andrew's now stands with a 6-2 record with one game remaining. Next Saturday we host arch-rival Tatnall for the conference title and possession of The Cannon. Kickoff will be at 2:00pm on Saturday.
