Plan I—Primary Insurance for Domestic and International Students

The Student Injury and Sickness Plan, underwritten by United Healthcare Insurance, provides primary first dollar benefits for students who do not have any insurance, or whose coverage is not accepted outside of their home area.

This plan provides coverage for 10 months (August 15, 2018 through June 14, 2019) for $2,160.00 USD for domestic or international students. For international students only: 12 months (August 15, 2018 through August 14, 2019) for $2,375.00 USD. Some of the benefits provided include:

zero deductible;
coverage of pre-existing conditions;
doctor’s visits covered at 100% of usual and customary charges; and
prescription drugs covered at 100% up to $2,500 annually.

Additional Information on Domestic Insurance Plan

As you may know, the regulatory environment for health insurance has presented many challenges recently. We have worked with our broker, Clifford Allen Associates (CAA), diligently to craft solutions that provide the needed coverage for Domestic students while ensuring that we follow all relevant legislation, rulings and guidance.

For the 2018-2019 academic year, CAA is committed to providing coverage to our domestic students for the entire academic year. At this point, they are uncertain as to whether that coverage will be provided in a single policy or multiple policies. A final decision will be reached before later this Spring as to how this coverage will be provided.

In the event that more than one policy is needed, CAA will ensure complete consistency in the benefit design to avoid any confusion on the coverage offered. We are, therefore, providing the 2017-2018 academic year benefits plan as CAA’s intent for the upcoming academic year is to duplicate those benefits. Obviously, the appropriate effective dates will be updated as well.

Plan II—Supplemental Insurance (Available to Domestic & International Students)

The Student Accident Insurance plan, underwritten by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., is a supplemental plan that offers coverage for accidental bodily injury from August 31, 2018 through June 3, 2019, for $120.00 USD. If your child participates in sports and/or is prone to accidents, we highly recommend this plan. There is no limit on the number of accidents covered during the policy period. The plan will pay 100% of eligible expenses incurred for medical services, up to $2,500 for each injury. Claims are submitted by the Health Center or parent/guardian. Since this plan is a supplemental plan, it cannot be purchased and/or used as primary health insurance coverage.
