Boys’ basketball at St. Andrew’s began as an intramural sport in 1936 and went interscholastic the following year. Coaches Dave Washburn (21 years), Bobby Rue (14 years) and Tad Roach (9 years) have had the longest tenure. St. Andrew’s won the IAC Championship in 1944 and 1945 and Dave Washburn’s team won the DISC Championship in 1970. In 1998, the basketball team became the first in School history to reach the State Tournament, and was selected to the Tournament for seven consecutive years.

Eric Boateng '05, now playing at Arizona State after transferring from Duke, was Delaware’s Player of the Year in 2005. Boateng was a fourth team All-American pick by Parade Magazine and was the first Delaware high school player to be selected for the McDonald’s All-American game and the Jordan Classic.
