The St. Andrew’s varsity baseball team grabbed an early 6-0 lead on the way to a five-inning, 13-3 victory over Christiana High School on Saturday. The Cardinals’ first inning went this way: Baylen Manocha ’18 doubled to left, Andrew McArthur ’18 was hit by a pitch, Rick Townsend ‘18 singled to load the bases. Next, Joey Shields ’19 doubled to score all three base runners. Then Colin Cool ’17 was hit by a pitch and went to first base. After Shields scored on a passed ball, Jack Lauer ’20 lined a triple to right scoring Cool. Ji Won Park ’18 then grounded to the pitcher, scoring Lauer.
Manocha earned the win for Cardinals. He went two and two-thirds innings, giving up one run, three hits, striking out six.
Rick Townsend ’18 started the game for the Cardinals. He threw two innings, allowing no runs, giving up one hit, and striking out three.
Overall, St. Andrew’s collected nine hits. Lauer and Shields each collected multiple hits for the Cardinals.
St. Andrew’s plays its final game, away against the Sanford Warriors on Tuesday afternoon at Sanford.
