Coach Viviana Davila
MA, Spanish Literature, George Mason University 2002
Viviana Rodriguez Davila '85 attended St. Andrew's School and played the forward line for the Saints girls varsity field hockey team from 1983 to 1985. She went on to play field hockey at Middlebury College, where she was known as a versatile player who even played goalie, and graduated from that school in 1989 with a liberal arts degree.
Viviana began her coaching career in 1987; she served as Middlebury High School's field hockey coach, where she coached the daughter of her Middlebury College. From 1994 to 2014, Viviana served as an assistant varsity field hockey and lacrosse coach and head JV field hockey coach for Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia, where she also coached cross-country, track, and squash. During that time she also served as a volunteer coach for her daughter's three travel lacrosse (Alexandria Lacrosse Club) teams in Alexandria, and was recognized for her coaching in that league.
Viviana returned to St. Andrew’s in 2015 to join the School’s coaching and training staff; she currently serves as Head Coach for the entire girls field hockey program. Besides coaching the varsity team, she also mentors the JV coaches and prepare student-athletes to play on the varsity squad. Since being appointed Head Coach, Davila has worked to change her girls' athletic mentality and led the Saints through some amazingly competitive games against the historically competitive Delaware Independent Schools Conference (which includes Tower Hill, Tatnall, Wilmington Friends, and Sanford). This team has a BIG goal and that is to make it through the conference tournaments to win championships. They must believe, dig deep and know that they are just as competitive as all the teams in our league. It's truly amazing to have a student-athlete join your squad with raw talent and coach them through to a real love of this game. Some may arrive with stick skills, others may not, but by their senior year, all our players are truly ready to take it to the next level.
