Girls' JV Lacrosse Boasts an Impressive 14-1 Victory
Parents and friends flanked the field on Saturday and cheered the JV team to a 14 to 1 victory over Tatnall. Everyone contributed valuable minutes and played strong lacrosse. We worked the ball very well around the goal and made some impressive transition plays up the field. Emma VanWagenburg had 3 goals for the day, while Katie Keating, Nina Fleischer Amanda Gahagan and Kaley Hanrahan each had two. Laura Hain, Jess Yanez and Molly Miller put one each in the net as well. Molly Miller made some great interceptions on defense and Claudia Heath played a solid game in front of the goal. Jess Yanez left the game with an injury to her nose at the start of the second half and we all figured she was out for the day. Determined to get back in, Jess re-entered the game with 4 minutes left and showed both Tatnall and her team what it is to be tough! Over all, it was a good game in which the girls were able to show one another and their fans what they are capable of doing. We head to the Hill School for our final game on Friday.

Saints Fall to Salesianum
Salesianum finished up a perfect season 15 - 0 celebrating their unbeaten status on the St. Andrew’s home field. Due to a rain out at Bayard Stadium, Salesianum’s home field, the Saints played host to the defending state champions. After Salesianum won the opening face-off and scored just eight seconds into the first quarter, it was clear that they were not going to be denied on Saturday. The large crowd who had assembled to watch a much-improved Saints team was treated to goal after goal by the champs. Unfortunately, there was not much that the Saints could do right against a more athletic and disciplined team. One bright spot was Alex Flynn figuring out how to win the face-offs earning a few much-needed possessions for the Saints with his seven ground balls. In addition, Henry Mellon got his first varsity point, an assist in the fourth period on Max Dynerman’s goal.
The Saints look to finish out the regular season Tuesday at home against a very hot Friends team. This will be a pivotal game for the Saints as they look to earn at least a share of the Conference Title. It will also be senior Phil Valliant’s final game in a Saints uniform. A large, partisan crowd will be very welcome!
Goals: Dynerman, Walter
Assists: Mellon
Saves: Dittmar - 10

Saints Top Tatnall
The 2008 Saint Andrew’s Boys’ Lacrosse team made history on Tuesday doing what no other team before has done since the inception of the program in 1993 - beat Tatnall twice in one spring. This win is a tribute to the class of 2008 and their determination as senior leadership fueled this season sweep of the Saints’ archrival. Dittmar led the way saving an incredible 19 shots and clearing the ball effectively out of the defensive end. Valliant showed why he will be a potent college player as he notched seven points leading all scorers for the day! Max Dynerman had several crucial ground balls as and a big goal at the end to seal the victory for the Saints. Luke Walter commanded the midfield, scooping seven ground balls, running by defenders and blistering three beautiful shots for goals. Tyler Willse provided additional strength on the first midfield playing excellent defense and making sure to keep the Saints’ team balanced through the midfield. Junior Jaivon Wesley provided additional offensive gas with a hat trick of his own as he literally put on a shooting clinic. Once again, the Saints defense was stalwart. While the shot ratio might seem unbalanced, the lacrosse faithful who witnessed this momentous occasion will undoubtedly realize that most of Tatnall’s shots were from the outside, off-balance, with a stick in their faces. Russell Train proved again his mettle in holding Drexel-bound, Brad Loiseaux to 1 goal. Ben McDonald had his best game of the year by exhibiting excellent anticipation and intercepting numerous Hornet passes. Not to be outdone, Will MacIntosh turned in a gem of a game on the “backside’ yielding exactly one goal on the day. Junior short stick defensive specialists, Ian Stabler and Alex Flynn, were positively stingy with the potent Tatnall attack. Finally our parents and fans proved to be a major motivator in Tuesday’s matchup providing support for the team in the midst of a hostile environment. The Saints face the undefeated and #1 team in the state, Salesianum, on Sat. at 11:30 AM at home.
SAS Goals: Valliant 4, Walter 3, Wesley 3, Dynerman
SAS Assists: Pierce 1, Valliant 3

Ground Balls: SAS - 36 Tatnall - 41

Girls' Lacrosse Tops #1 Team in the State
The St. Andrew's Girls' Varsity Lacrosse Team beat Tower Hill today by a solid 11-6 score. The Saints came out of the gates fired up and put three quick goals in and never loked back. Kaity Moore scored 4 goals, Amanda Johnston added 3 goals, and Cinda Caldwell and Grace Gahagan each added 2. Mackenzie Lilly played another outstanding game in the goal and was supported by a solid defensive unit who fought hard to come up with multiple ground balls in front of the cage. This was the first win for the St. Andrew's Girls' Lacrosse Team against Tower HIll since 2005 when they won the Delaware State Lacrosse Championship. Go Saints!
