Biography

A native of Charleston, WV, Sara graduated from St. Andrew’s in 1989 and Princeton University in 1993. She majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton and wrote a thesis on social behavior in feral ponies.

Sara attended medical school at West Virginia University graduating in 1998. She then completed an internship in internal medicine at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV and a residency in ophthalmology at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She joined her father in private practice in ophthalmology in Charleston WV. While in private practice, Sara worked on medical mission trips in Kenya and Ecuador, and she received the Mother Teresa award for international community service from the Catholic parish in Charleston, WV.

Sara closed her private practice and moved to Basalt, Colorado in 2007. While in Colorado, she became involved in volunteer work in the schools and focused on raising her children. She also started a small business manufacturing reusable snack bags and sandwich wraps, products meant to reduce the use of disposable, plastic bags. Sara is thrilled to be back at St. Andrew's and to be starting a new career in teaching. In her free time, Sara enjoys camping, painting and gardening, and she has exhibited paintings in art shows in Aspen and Carbondale, Colorado. She lives with her children and an old dog, Chessie, and a cat named Cleo in Gaul Center.
