SAS Swimming Brings the Heat at States

During the first weekend of Spring Break, St. Andrew's boys and girls swimming competed at states, with fantastic results. Sixty four percent of the team qualified for states, and St. Andrew's had eighteen total swims in finals races (which represent the top sixteen swimmers in the state in each event). What follows is a breakdown of achievements from Head Coach Richard Samulski:

Girls:

  • 10th place overall (best finish in 3 years)
  • 7 swims at finals
  • Caitlin Cobb '17 finished 6th in the 200 free and 4th in the 500 free
  • Hannah Beams '17 finished 12th in the 50 free and 16th in the 100 free
  • Sarah Caron '19 finished 11th in the 50 free and 7th in the 100 back
  • Ann Yancey Bassett '19 finished 15th in the 500 free (after being called in as an alternate)
Boys:
  • 4th place overall (third year in a row in the top 5)
  • 11 swims at finals (A final swim in every event except the 50 free!)
  • Keegan Pando '17 finished 6th in the 200 free and 4th in the 100 free
  • Tad Scheibe '19 finished 14th in the 200 free and 8th in the 500 free
  • Dylan Torrance '18 finished 4th in the 200 IM and 5th in the 100 fly
  • Colin Campbell '17 finished 13th in the 100 free
  • Xander Atalay '19 finished 10th in the 500 free
  • Will Cammerzell '19 finished 7th in the 100 back
  • Wilson Archie '18 finished 8th in the 100 breast
  • The 400 free relay team (seen here) (Campbell, Cammerzell, Torrance, Pando) placed 2nd in the 400 free relay to earn a silver medal!
In addition, 14 swimmers earned All-Conference honors and seven swimmers earned All-State honors. Sarah Caron '19, Will Cammerzell '19, Wilson Archie '18, and Tad Scheibe '19 received All-State Honorable Mention, Caitlin Cobb '17 and Dylan Torrance '18 were named to All-State Second Team, and Keegan Pando '17 was named to All-State First Team.
